Q. What should I do if I wish to Change my Major?

A. After you have registered for classes you may change your major by completing the Change/Declaration form. If you are trying to decide on a major or are thinking about changing your major and would like to talk to an advisor please contact the Academic Advising Center at 703.993.2470.

Q. Who can help if I have difficulty with classes?

A. The following resources are available to students: The Writing Center, Robinson Hall, Room A116. The Math Tutoring Center, Johnson Center, Room 238. Learning Services, Student Union I, Room 354, offers numerous workshops to help improve academic skills.

Q. Where do I go for pre-med advising?

A. The pre-med advisors are located in the Academic Advising Center, Student Union Building I, Room 304. If you are a current student attending George Mason you may make an appointment with a pre-med advisor by calling the Academic Advising Center at 703.993.2470. Students are also encouraged to visit the premed website at http://premed.gmu.edu. Student who are in their year of application should contact Dr. Emil Chuck through the premed website.

Q. Am I required to take Placement Exams?

A. Please refer to the placement exam section in the Patriots Guide for more information.

Q. What are my Housing Options?

A. Students may live on or off campus. On campus there are several kinds of residences available. For further information, contact Housing and Residence Life, 703.993.2720. If you are interested in off-campus accommodations, go to Off Campus Housing.

Q. How do I find out where to get my Parking Permit and where to park my car?

A. Parking information is available through the Parking Office at 703.993.2710 in the Parking Service Building next to Sandy Creek Parking Deck.

Q. Am I required to submit Proof of Immunizations?

A. If you were born after 1956, state law requires you to have an immunization record on file with Student Health Services. If you do not have a completed immunization record on file, you will not be prevented from registering for classes for your first semester. However, without proof of immunization, you will not be able to register for the subsequent semesters. Questions about the immunization policy can be directed to Student Health Services, 703.993.2831.

Q. Is there an office or service that I can contact if I have a Disability?

A. The Office of Disability Services provides access to a wide range of assistance to students with disabilities, including learning disabilities. For more information, contact the staff in Student Union I, Room 222, 703.993.2474.

Q. How do I apply for Financial Aid?

A. For information about financial aid options, contact the Office of Student Financial Aid at 703.993.2353, South Chesapeake Module. You may also call Direct OnLine Aid Resource System (DOLARS) at 703.993.4GMU.

Q. Where can I go for help if I am having a hard time making a career decision?

A. If you are facing a difficult career decision or if you want to see how your choice of major is related to your career, University Career Services offers help with self-assessment and career exploration. For more information, contact University Career Services in Student Union I, Room 348, 703.993.2370.

Q. Can I take classes on line at Mason?

A. Mason offers an extremely limited number of courses on line. To review your options, please refer to the Schedule of Classes. There are no freshman sophomore level courses on line.

Q. How do I attempt to enroll in a closed class?

A. If you are not able to add yourself to the course on patriotweb by the time schools starts, you will need to go to the class on the first day and ask the instructor if you will be allowed to enroll. If yes, the instructor or department will sign the Permission to Enroll form (obtained from the department). You will need to take the signed form to the Registrar's Office in the North Chesapeake Module.

Q. Where can I go if I have personal problems?

A. The Counseling and Psychological Services Office (CAPS) offers individual and group counseling, workshops, crisis support, and referral services. The services offered at CAPS are free of charge for matriculated students. Counselors are also available to discuss issues affecting a student's ability to function. A complete description of all counseling services, including dates and times of groups and workshops, is available in the office, located in Student Union I, Room 364, 703.993.2380. Services are confidential.

Q. How do I meet people and get involved on campus?

A. George Mason has over 200 clubs and organizations. If you have an interest that is not represented, you can form a club with three of your friends. Information about campus activities and a list of organizations is available from Office of Student Activities, Student Union Building I, 703.993.2909.

Q. Where can I find employment?

A. If you are looking for part-time or full-time employment, go to University Career Services, in SUB I Room 348 for help in finding employment. If you have been awarded work-study money, contact the Office of Student Financial Aid for information about offices that employ work-study students.

Q. Are there Health Services on campus?

A. George Mason provides health services for students in Student Health Services, located in Student Union Building I, Room 232, 703.993.2830.

Q. Where is the Prince William Campus?

A. The Prince William Campus is located 20 miles from the Fairfax Campus in Manassas. In addition to numerous course offerings, a broad range of services is available: academic advising, counseling, computer labs, a bookstore, health services, and the Office of the Registrar. A free shuttle service between the Fairfax and Prince William Campuses is available. The Prince William Campus phone number is 703.993.8334.

Q. How do I find out about Study Abroad?

A. To learn about study abroad programs contact The Center for Global Education at 703.993.2154 or go to their office located in the Johnson Center, Room 235. Their website is also an excellent source to learn about the study abroad programs.

Q. Where do I go for pre-law advising?

A. The pre-law advisor is Dr. Char Miller. His office is in the office of Public and International Affairs located in Robinson A, Room 201. He may be contacted at 703.993.1407. The pre-law website also has information regarding pre-law.

Q. I need information about the Foreign Language Placement test. How do I find it?
